signing day
signed my first pro contract today! i'm officially a pro athlete. its a beautiful thing. i'm signed with the longford falcons of the irish national basketball league till the end of the season in march. My coach used to be a referee for FIBA and has jokes for days. the dudes on the team are real mellow. i'm chillin mostly with this american dude from los angeles named sam. he's a point guard and can straight bomb and dish. we're about the same age and its both of our first year over here. we've been hatching some big plans for both ball and road trippin. spent the day sharing stories about the little things that the irsh do and say that crack us up. we're waiting on the team to sign a center. they looked at a dude from bermuda yesterday who was pretty raw. another british dude is coming this week so we'll see. still waiting on ben wallace! we got an athletic fast team and everyone gets along real well save this one older sasquatch looking dude.... i've been waiting to catch him with an elbow. me and sam make a pretty devasting pick and roll combo, they make dvd's of the games so you'll see it in action soon enough. the first game is on oct 16th, and we have a few exhibition games and a tourney before the season. they're hooking me up as a bartender at the pub/club that sponsors the team. the mice serving the cheese ain't the best idea methinks! i'm looking forward to getting settled in my place and unpacking those damn suitcases(thanks andje). just seeing the town a lil bit today getting a feel for the place. updating the pikey story from earlier....talking to one of the dudes on the team he told me that after the shootings last week, the cops raided them at the graveyard before the funeral and confiscated, pipes, hedge clippers, sledge hammers and samurai swords... apparently after the funeral the two groups were gonna have it out.... fucking samurai swords!! can you imagine watching that battle? Bad news from belfast in the north. the ulster orange order(protestants) have been rioting like crazy, burning vehicles, petrol bombing cop cars, setting up barricades, beating people, shooting cops, hi-jacking buses and driving them through store windows....pretty wild action. apparently they are mad at the disarmament agreement and see it as a concession to the republicans(irish catholics) and when one of their parades got re-routed that was the tipping point and set all the drama off. crazy to think i was their last week! crazy times in the world.
