london is so damn big. spent most of the day walking around, there are so many nooks and crannies to this city that its kinda overwhelming, walking down any major street you find yourself looking down the sidestreets and seeing something interesting or crazy. you think about how old and established and how much history and stories lie in each building and city block. went and worked out this morning at my sisters gym which turns out to be the worlds first ymca. its right downtown and really big and easily the best one i've been to so far. i got to shoot a couple hundred jumpshots as well which is good so i don't get rusty. we went to tesco (supermarket chain) and they had self serve tills where you go up with your items and scan them all through yourself, then bag them and then pay into a machine. it was an idea i'm pretty sure i came up with years ago. i gotta give it to the brits though, they certainly know how to dress. everyone walking around like they are dapper dan. gotta keep your gear game tight over here.
i went to the national gallery and checked out a lil culture. my sister is doing her fine arts masters and she gave me a lil education on the degas, renoir and van gough styles. it was bizzare how much i was able to tell who did what because i used to test my mum on art history while she was taking her degree and apparently sum of it subconciously stuck in my head because i know i didn't intend on remembering any of it at the time. to summarise my experience there i learned or figured out on my own that many women in italian art are fat and really pasty because it was a sign of wealth to be chubby. and most art in the early days was commissioned either by the church, kings and the very wealthy. much of the art is religious depictions or portraits for this reason. the italian artists love bright color. i learned about pointism and impressionism and triych's. it was pretty cool seeing all these famous pieces all together.
we were walking in leicester square and they had this big carnival with rides and booths. they had a basketball shoot set up. niamhy said i should do it and win a big stuffed toy. it cost 2.50 for 4 balls and if you sank 2 shots you won your choice of 10 bills or a toy and the most times you could win was 3 in a row. i roll up to the attendant thinking "this guy has no idea of the hustle i'm about to put on him" i'm a damn pro; i walked up like woody harrelson in white men can't jump; "can i throw the balls at the orange hoop?" ..... thats where the plan went awry. my damn jacket was constricting my shoulders and my followthrough, the wind picked up, kids were yelling, dogs were barking and i ended up shooting 1/4. i slinked away and vowed revenge; i told niamhy i'd return in sweat pants and a tshirt doing warm up exercises tommorow and they'd never know what hit 'em. it was a damn embarassment!

Funny story - when I was in England, on my pro ball tour, I ran across the same game... As I was chaperoning the kids from the school I was working at at this fair, they all started buggin me to win them something after they saw me win this stuffed basketball ... I straight cleaned that place out.. And I still got that basketball... I guess this just shows the difference in game between the Irish Div. 2 league and the Budweiser (nee: national) League in England...
