game 16: LL Cool J
Don't call it a comeback.
well, actually i suppose you can. we rolled into jonstrup and their crappy gym with no audience or atmosphere on sunday.... not exactly hitting on all cyclinders. mired in a 3 game slump and watching our starting center basically not be able to warm up, the game looked kinda bleak from the onset. endre was nursing a hamstring problem that has now moved to his back and he could barely lift his leg, walking like a straight up cripple.
we started off the first half getting a fair amount of transition points and buckets off of broken plays. we didn't really run a half court set very well, esp with our main piece out of the flow. i was on point most of the game but always had a guy on me that i could break down whenever i wanted. its almost too tantalizing not to do when you feel like you got them at your disposal. i pushed it and was more aggressive. we had problems filling the wings though in the first half. guys joggin on the break instead of sprinting.
we were down eight at the half. they had some guard who was hitting some crazy three's all game. he had some wack form but they were splashing nonetheless. we made some defensive adjustments and switches in the second half, but in the first bit they ballooned the lead to 13, like here we go again. niels went out with an ankle problem. guys were dropping passes, missing layups, passing it right to the other team. i got the ball all alone, went up to lay it in, then wanted to dunk it, then changed my mind again mid air. put it on the rim and it just hung there. i went up and grabbed it and a dude boxed me out and undercut me, so i pushed him and kicked the ball at him, pissed that i missed the shot and that i almost got injured. so the ref T'd me up...lol. so they got 2 shots and the ball and we got nothing outta it.
fourth q we had to make a push, down 8. we moved to a smaller lineup and went to deny pressure. we started to get some turnovers and break outs. lasse and chris came in and gave us real good energy. had one nice play on defense where the shot went up from the top of the key and i saw their point guard come in for the rebound, so as it came off the front rim i just went up with my left and slapped it out to half where corrie went in untouched. i popped a three in transition with 2 minutes to go, then we just put the clamps on them the rest of the way, protecting a 1 point lead. i got fouled late a few times and hit 3 of 4 to ice the game.
after wins we do this special cheer. the coach peter was like alright fellas, lets see if we remember how this goes...
we lost every quarter to them except the last one where we outscored them 18-6. it was a pretty impressive defensive effort. dre was a warrior out there mostly on d... but he hit some tough shots late in the shot clock for us as well. he was breaking out the swears in hungarian steady.
i had 27 pts and 12 rbs and was pressing on offense alot more trying to create. i woulda had a triple double in this game if we didn't miss so many damn layups or bobble passes. first time in a while i played 40 minutes. i always walk that foul trouble line.
some shots from the trip down:
a lighthouse in between the islands of fyn and sjaelland
soren brought his bed with him and crashed on the floor the whole way down. where was the hot sauce when you need it
the danish coastline
so now we have a bye week. it is spring break here in denmark this week. they have the all star game this weekend. ashley got invited for the girls one. we have a camp to coach later in the week but mostly its a good chance to heal those minor injuries and to work on some individual skill stuff. then its the home stretch of the schedule with 3 of the final five games in our gym. we sit at 7-10 right now. so a .500 record is still within striking distance.

How come I am still reading about you in constant foul trouble and still getting t'd up all the time? How long you need to play a game before you get a grip on the mental?
yeah thats not working out too well for me at the moment.
