combined like a compass and a magnet
as it stands right now my basketball experience has come and gone and its time for the prodigal son to move on and up. over the last 3 years i've put alot into it and made a tonne of sacrifices, some that i regret, most that i don't. i definitley feel i am a better man as a reult and it is something that will never slide in to the recesses of my memory, searing a brand on my identity.
I guess turning thirty made me realize that i need to make some big boy moves. that social clock tic's louder. the state of stasis that ball keeps you in leads to great experiences but as i think ahead more i realize i have to look to the future a bit more and make up for lost ground and start establishing myself more. the fly-by-night lifestyle never really allowed me to settle or provide me with any type of security... but wtf, it was only the damn twenties.
in the meantime- in between time, i enjoyed the summer of george, kickin it and evaluated things over the summer, left to formulate a plan and direction. alot of things pulled me in different direction on different days. i definitely became reaquainted with the fact that i absolutley positively struggle with making a decision in this regards. i struggled with it after high school, after university, while in vancouver, during all my jobs and during my basketball tours. i second and third guess myself on the direction of my life. always have. i guess i am somewhat envious of people who know exactly what they want to do and walk right into it and are able to use it as a lucritive and longterm positive thing in their life. i knew what i wanted to do; i wanted to play ball. i did that and it was stellar but it was a quick realization that it wasn't something i could continue in that facet, as a career, especially in europe. i regret i didn't start playing over there earlier cuz you really need to get those formative years out of the way early on with the resume building to move to a situation where you can make real cake to the point where it is worthwhile.
So as i cement the plans for my future direction like mr burns in the highback chair; i had to come up with a plan for the lonely months of winter, with the immediate goal of builing equity and fast. through anj i got a job with akita oil drilling in alberta. not a big fan of wage work but since pools don't pay in the winter, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
with an idea of what to expect and what not to expect i made the jump and turned that compass northward. first thing i did was download the movies armageddon and there will be blood. i had to see what i was getting myself into!! i was like DAMN... had me out there thinkin i'm gonna be like bruce willis; i'm gonna save the world, never pay taxes again, screw some people over like i'm a cowboy and make crazy money... this is gonna be sick!! lol
lets just say it ... hasn't... panned... out... like... that.... quite .... yet
