The Wildlife
i'm like steve irwan up here... throwing around crikeys left right and center. we don't get much in the way of animals down south. on the ride to work everyday its like a god damn safari. these dudes try to get the crew truck driver to hit everything that moves along these access roads that lead to the leases. the fauna are in full effect.

white-tail deer are all over the place we almost hit them everyday. bambi is a retard. she sits on the side of the road with her kids then right when you are about to fly by... the chicken crosses the road: WHY?? we drove by one a buck that got hit one day on the way to work. then on the way home we passed it again and this dude vance yells "stop!" i was like wtf... dude jumps out, pops the trunk and grabs a hacksaw that he brought. we were like what ya doin vance, he turns with a smile sayin "gettin me some antlers". this dude grabs the carcass that the ravens had picked over and exposed most of the chest cavity, and tries to cut off the antlers. the blade snapped as he's doing this and he comes back and says "its ok, i'll come back with a bigger saw tommorow"
Timberline wolf: we only saw this bad boy once but these things are biiiig. i was like damn this hound is not to be trifled with. it stood about 5 ft tall looking mean as hell

now i haven't actually seen a cougar yet but this guy chad and me were talking about training while at work and stuff and he broke out this story for me. he said during one hitch he was going for runs along the lease roads(basicaly logging roads). he said once he was about 4km from camp and had an eery feeling he was being followed. he looked behind him and saw a huge cougar in full on stalk mode(not unlike a night drinking at roses), body slunk to the ground about 150 m behind him. he said the thing was still about 3 ft tall even in that position and musta weighed 150lbs. i was like "DAMN!! what'd you do dude" he said "well i just kept running cuz i was so far from camp, checking back every couple seconds just to make sure, i mean i didn't break into a sprint because if he attacked i figured i better make sure i had some energy to fight him." haha i was like "you were trying to fight a giant cougar? you're crazy!!" he replies " well i mean i always go jogging with two 12 inch hunting knives."
these dudes.... wow. suffice to say on night shifts i'm a little bitch everytime i have to go to the outskirts of our lease plot.... super paranoid a cougar is out there waiting on me, like ding ding... dinner time. lets just say i arm myself like a cambodian rebel.

and the biggest of them all... the moose. canadiana at its finest. we've seen a few of these bad-boys. trust me when i say they are giants. all body on these spindly legs, sitting like 7 ft tall. we drove by one and t broke into a gallop into the woods, i'm looking at it thinking that there is a 60% chance that thing is going to just run into a tree... totally reckless. all the guys say they are dumb as rocks. they just destroy vehicles when they get hit, because their bodies are so top heavy they just crush the cars and they weigh so much. chad says he goes mountain biking and you gotta watch them during mating season cuz the males will charge you and kill people every year. pedal lola pedal!
