miceail's misadventures

How many roads must a man walk down, before you call him a man? How many seas must the white dove sail, before she sleeps in the sand? The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind

remember the ghosts

lest ye forget

today is remembrance day out here. suffice to say there was no ceremony or moments of silence. lord knows these dudes wouldn't have minded shooting off a 21 gun salut though. there are more guns out here than in the prop room of a rambo movie. alot of these guys out here would make pretty good soldiers though. they understand the chain of command, they take and follow orders in extreme conditions, they are well versed in hunting and firearm operation. there are no daisies in this field.... no poppies either, just the ever fading memories.

my grandpa flew a bomber in the second great war for the RAF and also trained pilots after he had maxed out his flight hours. he actually was sent to lethbridge to be an instructor. kinda close to where i am now. strange how things seem cyclical like that, 70 some odd years later. but no wars out here. i suppose i am on the front lines of the oil wars though... the fight to produce.

i've spent a few long nights with the fellas at war memorials, talking about if we were called like they once were... what it would take and what you would learn about yourself to make the ultimate sacrifice for what you believe in and to stand up. hopefully my generation is never called to heed a call like that but you can't but help feel the onset of a holy war brewing as the two major religions edge closer to strength. as you look in history its the flow back and forth between the power of islam and christianity that has led to so many battles... ideological, social, political and military. for what? esp when the idea of a religion is so contrary to conflict.

"either war is obsolete or man is"

anyways its the 90th anniversary of remembrance day here in canada
RIP veterans on both sides
